ABSTRACT

Background: The genus Cissus (Vitaceae) is known for its medicinal properties. Cissus quadrangularis is a well-known medicinal plant, but other species are less explored. Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Cissus arnottiana. Materials and Methods: The methanolic extract of C. arnottiana leaves was evaluated for antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide, and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. Anti-inflammatory activity was assessed using the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model. Results: The extract showed significant antioxidant activity in a dose-dependent manner. In the anti-inflammatory assay, the extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses significantly reduced paw edema compared to the control group. Conclusion: C. arnottiana possesses significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting its traditional use.
