Submission steps

1. 1Prepare your filesManuscript with line numbers, a separate title page, figures at 300 dpi and editable tables. A cover letter naming the significance of the work is required.
2. 2Complete the declarationsEthics approval, informed consent, funding, conflicts of interest, author contributions and a data availability statement.
3. 3Submit onlineCreate an account on the journal's submission system, upload the files and confirm the corresponding author's contact details.
4. 4Track the decisionEditorial screening takes a few days; single-blind peer review by two referees typically returns a first decision within four weeks.
